Date Night and Channeling our Inner Picaso!

Tom and I had an awesome date night on Thursday! We got so many fun things packed into one night. We started out in the Westside district of Kansas City, and made it into the Fervere to get some yummy bread. This place is only open 3 days a week, and only stay open until they sell out. Then we walked around the corner to an Italian soda/snow cone shop called Little Freshie. We had a traditional root beer Italian soda, and a banana cardamom. DELICIOUS! This shop is so cute, and they sell a ton of cute local products from candles to coffee. This is such a neat neighborhood in Kansas City with so much character.

Then we enjoyed some dinner at one of our favorite restaurants - Westside Local.  Tom ordered their new Local Pig hamburger topped with prosciutto, and I got the apple chicken salad sandwich. Ahhhhmmmaaazing!!!

I found a Groupon a few months ago for a BYOB art class. It was located in West Plaza at an old art gallery. The decor on the walls were enough entertainment for me. We each got our own paint, paint brushes, apron, and blank canvas to work on. The picture for the night was Starry Night, and the teacher walked us through 4-5 steps to paint the photo. We both really enjoyed it! The highlight of the night by of been the girls next to us that had a little too much "B" in the byob... she spilled her water cup that she rinsed the paint brushes out in ALL over a 5,000+ Persian rug. Oops! haha

In other news: Tom and I also went to a boxing class this week. We are still both having trouble walking. haha! (It was a little intense) We signed up for a month so there will be many more.

Before heading out on our date night! Love this guy. :)

On our way home from boxing. Wow - we were beat!

Happy 4 Months!

Tom and I have been happily married for four months (on the 28th). It has been a fun, fast four months. - how many f's can I put in a sentence? haha! I LOVE being married, and can't wait for four-ty more years.

I have a fun date night planned for us tonight (that I will blog about later). Other than that we don't have a lot of new/exciting things to report on. We enjoyed a weekend in El Dorado visiting family, and welcoming my best friend Caitlin back home. The bathroom is coming along nicely, and we are hoping to get a lot done this Labor Day weekend. I am still loving to cook - and made a mean enchilada dish, and buffalo turkey burgers last night.

Happy Four months Tom - love you to pieces.

Bathroom Remodel!

We started a new remodel project this weekend.... are you surprised? This is our 3rd bathroom we are going to remodel. (we have the master bath left after this, and we should be experts.) This is the guest bathroom upstairs. The 80s exploded in there, and there is brass lighting, yellow linoleum and tile, and of course carpet.

This is a pretty big project, because of all the tile work we are going to have to do. We want to:
-resurface the tub
-new toilet
-new countertop
-tile the floor
-tile around the shower/bath
-new trim
-crown molding
-new paint.

The good thing is... we don't have to get a new countertop we are just going to tile the old one, and we are going to paint the cabinets. So we a. save money and b. save labor! WIN:WIN! Yeah...

We got started yesterday and made sure to take lots of before pictures. Then we took all the cabinet doors and fixtures off. Today I finished ripping out all the tile in the shower. It was a good stress relief.
Starting on the tile!

3 Little Puppies... What Were We Thinking?

Backstory:

I am a HUGE dog lover, always have been. Had dogs growing up, and am a firm believer in the saying, "Whoever said diamonds were a girls best friend, never owned a dog." Is that a saying? ;) Anytime I am walking and see a puppy, I have to pause and have a conversation with it. I usually call all dogs puppies, and say things like, "Hey pup, how ya doing? You're pretty cute, ya know that? I see you wagging your tail." - and I of course have to say all of this in a weird high pitched voice, like I am talking to a child.

The puppies:

I have volunteered off and on at the Great Plains SPCA walking dogs for the past two years. The opportunity recently presented itself to foster a few lab puppies. (and by few I mean THREE 7 WEEK OLD PUPPIES!) I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into. They told me it would only be for 6 days, and that they couldn't split them up. My other alternative was 1 German Shepard puppy for 6 weeks. I thought about a few things before committing to this... the amount of dog pee/poop I would have to clean up was not one of the things I thought about.

What I did think about:
1. That at some point in our lives we are going to get a dog so this would be a good experience for us.
2. That 7 week old lab puppies are so stinking cute.
3. We are in no way shape or form ready for a dog in our house, so I would NOT get attached.
4. Tom gave the okay on this whole deal, and actually sounded excited about it.

I picked the puppies up last Tuesday, and was given no instructions on them. The shelter provided food, toys, leashes, a cage, and a crate. I immediately fed them WAY to much and they were pooping and peeing everywhere. I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off, picking up after them and trying to give them a bath. I quickly learned to take them outside one by one, and that they weren't always going to be clean.

There were points during the week where I turned into a crazy person and said things like... I am never getting a dog or having kids, I can't believe how bad these "things" smell, and I can't wait to take them back. It was hard, really, really hard, and a lot of work to have 3 puppies.

Lesson Learned:
Having a dog is a HUGE responsibility. You can't just go and come whenever you please - you have to plan your schedule around their bathroom and feeding schedule. (and did I mention the amount of poop you have to clean up?!) It was definitely a good test run. I can say that I love my freedom, and am not ready to take care of a puppy. It made us feel really good that we were able to get them out of the shelter and keep them happy and healthy before going up for adoption. At the end of the week I did have a hard time saying goodbye.I did of course get attached to one of the puppies, and tears were shed when taking them back. They were neutered on Tuesday morning, and I went to check on the Wednesday afternoon and they had all already been adopted. I was so happy to hear that they all found home so quickly and easily.

The three little hellions.
Our first day with them. They were SO tiny. We think they must have been mixed with a smalled breed.

How can you stay mad at a face like that? This was, Blackie. My favorite.

Royals, Crock Pot Meals, and Puppies - (not all together of course!)

This was a fun and relaxing weekend. We got some stuff done around the house, cooking, and of course fit in a little fun! We were puppy sitting for our friends, Chris and Erica. Ellie is such a cute puppy, it's hard not to love her. She is a cockapoo (cocker spaniel and poodle mix). She is a ball of energy, but as long as you take her on some long walks, she is pretty cuddly too. I think this was another good practice run for when Tom and I decide to get a dog. It's definitely a HUGE responsibility adjustment. When we were at the Royals game it was in the back of mind what she was doing, and if she was okay.

We don't have a fence, so that will be another thing we have to figure out before we make the leap into the pet owner world. I think when we get a dog we will get a bigger dog... maybe a lab, golden retriever, bernese mountain dog, or great dane? (Tom, would never let me have a great dane.) I am sure it might be awhile because of all the work we are doing on the house. I would love to find a dog that doesn't shed, but adopting from a shelter is important to me. Adopt people- there are way too many dogs out there in shelters not to!!

We went to the Royals game with the Tradebot crew on Saturday. It was the perfect evening to go with cool weather. We didn't end up winning, but with good friends, food, and a nice air conditioned suite we couldn't complain!

Sunday afternoon we cooked up a storm! We went to Costco and Price Chopper and loaded up on groceries to make FIVE crockpot recipes, and a total of EIGHT meals. I think this will come in really handy when we are busier this fall, and just want to throw something in for dinner when we get off work. We found a great blog that provided the grocery list and recipes: http://melissafallistestkitchen.blogspot.com/2011/09/freezer-cooking-slow-cooker-meals.html I am excited to try them out! It only took us about two hours, and it was fun to cook together.

We have been Olympic watching fools! Anytime I have an extra five minutes you can find me glued to the TV. I love watching the gymnastics, swimming, and of course track and field. GO USA!
